Playground Checkpoint
Design and build a real schema — no auto-grading, just a real attempt.
The Challenge
Six chapters of real search, all converging on one real challenge: build GreenMart's actual product search, the way this whole Act argued it should work — typo-tolerant, ranked by relevance, not just matched exactly.
Open the Playground and work with it directly: run a deliberately misspelled query and confirm it still finds the right product, add a brand-new product of your own to the catalog and search for it, and compare two queries' real relevance scores to explain why one ranks higher than the other.
What Your Product Search Needs
- Run at least one query with a deliberate typo (like the starter's own "wireles keybord") and confirm the correct product is still found — real, verified fuzzy matching, not a lucky guess.
- Add at least one new product of your own to the Documents file, directly in the Playground (an id, a title, and at least one more text field) — then search for it by name to confirm it's indexed and findable.
- Run a query that legitimately matches two different products at once, and compare their real relevance scores — explain in your own words why one ranks above the other.
- Try a short, partial word (like the first few letters of one of your product's titles) and confirm prefix/autocomplete-style matching finds it before the word is complete.
Stuck? A Few Hints
- Reread relevance-and-scoring's own worked example — "wireless keyboard" against the default catalog — this checkpoint reuses the exact same idea, just with your own added product in the mix.
- Every string field except "id" gets indexed automatically — no separate schema step. Give your new product at least a title and a description so it has real, indexable text.
- The relevance score is shown right next to each result — you don't need to guess or compute it yourself, just read and compare the real numbers the engine already returns.
Ready to Build It?
Opens the Playground, right in your browser — nothing to install.
The starter query should return real, ranked results despite both words being misspelled — that's the checkpoint working correctly, not a hint that something's wrong. After you add your own product and search for it, it should appear in the results with its own real relevance score.
Before You Move On
A typo-tolerant query, a product you added yourself showing up as a real, indexed, searchable result, and two genuine matches ranked by a real relevance score — that's the whole Act, in one real search: close enough should still find it, and the engine's job is ranking what it finds, not just matching it exactly. The next Act moves from finding things by what they say to finding patterns in things that change every second.
